Sofie Terwel, MSc, EBMT GoCART, Leiden, Netherlands, talks on the GoCART coalition, recently founded by the European Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) and the European Hematology Association (EHA). This strategic partnership was formed to address the variety of challenges in the field of cellular therapies. GoCART brings together stakeholders from across the sector, including patients, healthcare professionals, Health Technology Assessment (HTA) bodies, reimbursement agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and medical organizations. The aim of GoCART is to foster collaboration to maximize the potential of cellular therapies. This interview took place during the 3rd European CAR T-cell Meeting.

Collaboration in the field of cellular therapies

Sofie Terwel, MSc, EBMT GoCART, Leiden, Netherlands, describes the importance of collaboration in the field of cellular therapies, where the challenges are so significant that only all the stakeholders collectively can address them. For instance, because cellular therapies are novel, none of the European countries can generate sufficient data to do meaningful analysis. Therefore, a central registry, preferably academically owned, for data collection is essential. Although sharing CAR-T cell data is of extreme importance, is it also a sensitive issue. To find solutions to the challenges and maximize collaboration, the European Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) established the GoCART coalition. This interview took place during the 3rd European CAR T-cell Meeting.

Current activities of GoCART

Sofie Terwel, MSc, EBMT GoCART, Leiden, Netherlands, discusses the current activities of GoCART, a CAR T-cell platform created to address the variety of challenges in the field of cellular therapies in collaboration with all stakeholders. The first GoCART activities that reveal the promise of cooperation include the review of the data collection form with all the stakeholders. Another activity developed by the coalition is the harmonization of existing site qualification schemes to reduce the inspection burden for centers.
