There are currently no regenerative therapies for cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarctions, with heart transplantation being the only long-term solution. Injection of nanoparticles loaded with microRNA can induce the conversion of scar tissue to cardiomyocytes in situ. This interview took place at the 6th World Congress of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS 2021).

Collaboration in developing cardiovascular regenerative therapies https://mirror.vjregenmed.com/video/9g_ll1zbyb4-collaboration-in-developing-cardiovascular-regenerative-therapies/ Thu, 13 Jan 2022 16:36:13 +0000 http://13.40.107.223/video/9g_ll1zbyb4-collaboration-in-developing-cardiovascular-regenerative-therapies/ Valeria Chiono, PhD, Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, comments on the importance of multidisciplinary research in the field of regenerative medicine. Successfully regenerating cardiac tissue for cardiovascular diseases remain a major hurdle, and collaboration of experts from various field will be necessary to overcome these barriers. This interview took place at the 6th World Congress of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS 2021).

Strategies for advancing cardiovascular advanced therapies https://mirror.vjregenmed.com/video/_0v5kynnooc-strategies-for-advancing-cardiovascular-advanced-therapies/ Thu, 13 Jan 2022 16:36:06 +0000 http://13.40.107.223/video/_0v5kynnooc-strategies-for-advancing-cardiovascular-advanced-therapies/ Valeria Chiono, PhD, Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, discusses issues in developing regenerative therapies for cardiovascular diseases. As cardiac tissue does not regenerate, direct reprogramming techniques enable cardiac fibroblasts to turn into myocytes. However, designing appropriate nanoparticles to efficiently deliver the relevant cell therapy to the affected, as well sourcing mature fibroblasts that will integrate with tissue to avoid side effects such as arrythmia remain major barriers that need to be overcome. This interview took place at the 6th World Congress of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS 2021).
